Youth & Social Good Program

Turning Vision Into Real-World Impact,
Where the Next Generation of Leaders Begins.

About Us

The Youth & Social Good Program is a community-focused initiative that connects project management expertise with education and nonprofit organizations to drive meaningful impact. Led by the Project Management Institute Washington DC Chapter (PMIWDC), under the AVP of Youth & Social Good, the program brings together professionals, educators, and community partners to expand access to project management knowledge and strengthen organizational capacity.

Through three flagship initiatives—the NextGen Project Management Summit, YSI Scholarship Program, and Social Impact Program—PMIWDC creates opportunities for learning, collaboration, and service. These programs bring together students, nonprofit leaders, and project management professionals to apply proven project management practices to real-world challenges.

Together, these programs expand access to project management knowledge, strengthen leadership capabilities, and support organizations in delivering mission-driven initiatives that benefit the communities they serve.

Our initiatives introduce students to the foundations of project management, provide mentorship and scholarship opportunities, and engage PMIWDC members in socially responsible community projects. Rooted in PMI’s mission to make project management indispensable for enabling change, the program extends its reach across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia (DMV) through partnerships with schools, universities, and nonprofit organizations.

By sharing the tools, structure, and mindset of project management, we help transform ideas into organized action and empower organizations to deliver sustainable impact in their communities.

Scholarship Spotlight

PMIWDC YSI Scholarship Alumni Spotlight featuring Anish Mansabdar

Anish Mansabdar

PMIWDC YSI Scholarship Alumni Spotlight

Meet Anish Mansabdar, one of our PMIWDC YSI Scholarship winners in 2025.

“I was honored to be selected as one of the PMIWDC YSI Scholarship winners in 2025, and looking back, it came at a pivotal moment in my journey. I was completing my Master's in Project Management at George Washington University while simultaneously leading real- world initiatives within the university, like a CRM transformation program, workflow automation projects, and cross-functional technology deployments. The scholarship wasn't just financial support; it was a vote of confidence that reinforced my belief that I belonged in this profession.”

Anish’s path into project management began with structured problem-solving and cross- team collaboration as a Machine Learning Data Analyst at Amazon, later expanding into project leadership, SaaS banking portfolios, and complex project management roles in the United States.

Today, Anish is a Project Manager at WMATA, leading AI and CRM initiatives that directly impact how hundreds of thousands of commuters experience public transit every day.

His advice to future applicants: “Do it. The YSI Scholarship is more than an award. It's the beginning of a professional identity.”
