PMI Washington DC Named Chapter of the Year

Washington DC (November 1, 2017) The Project Management Institute Washington DC chapter (PMIWDC) was awarded the 2017 Chapter Excellence Award for Chapter of the Year, Category III, chapters with over 1500 members, by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading not-for-profit membership association for project, program, and portfolio management professionals.

The award, presented at the annual Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) in Chicago, recognized PMIWDC as the chapter who best aligns to the core values of Project Management Impact, Professionalism, Volunteerism, Community and Engagement.

The PMIWDC chapter has 10,702 members. PMIWDC received this honor by consistently providing member value, educational opportunities, advancing the profession of project management, serving the community, and providing personal and professional advancement opportunities for its members.

“Biggest doesn’t always mean the best. It just means you have bigger problems”, said PMIWDC Chair Andy Walker. “With that, we are constantly challenged to try and bring our best for our members."

Last year, during the chapter’s annual board training, leaders embarked on a core values branding exercise that aligned the chapter both with PMI’s core values as well as the unique needs of the capital area community. The result was the adoption of the core values statement “High-Impact, Community, Leaders”. This award reflects on PMIWDC’s commitment to make our core values real by maximizing value for our membership, the project management profession, and the wider communities we serve.”

In the year leading up to the award, PMIWDC engaged the Washington, DC project management community through over 100 speaker events across the area (75 miles from east to west); 24 Book Club meetings; 20 Professional Training Seminars; 11 Podcasts; 10 Networking events; 6 Webinars; 4 PMP Prep Classes; and the Annual PM Symposium.
