About the Presentation

Performance Management Readiness

Have you ever been asked to create a performance dashboard for your organization? Was the request based on leadership's idealized expectations of the benefit? Were your organization's goals, processes, and data repositories too immature to inform the dashboard? If yes, then come learn about a performance management framework developed to evaluate an organization's readiness before any discussion about, or formulation of, a dashboard begins. The speakers will share their evaluation tool for assessing performance management readiness, identify the strategic and operational components needed for measure development, and describe some of their experiences from a performance readiness evaluation at the U.S. Census Bureau.

About the Speakers

Susan Hostetter

Project Manager
Susan Hostetter is a Project Manager in the Demographic Survey Methodology Division (DSMD) at the U.S. Census Bureau in Washington, DC, USA. She has spent twenty plus years at the U.S Census Bureau as a data analyst and project management professional. She has been instrumental in standing up and improving risk management, project management, portfolio management, strategic planning, and performance management processes for multiple Census and Survey programs. She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Economics at Mary Baldwin College and her Master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Maryland’s University College.

James Miller

MITRE Corporation
Program and Project Management Consultant
James Miller is a Program and Project Management consultant with the MITRE Corporation in McLean, VA, USA. He began his career in the 1970s as a Systems Analyst and Database Designer with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and was heavily involved in classified computer security design and implementation through the 1980s. He has provided program and project management support and consulting to a variety of federal civil agencies for the past 26 years. With the MITRE Corporation since 2006, Jim has exclusively supported the U.S. Census Bureau on a wide variety of high profile programs and management initiatives. He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1972.

About the Monthly Chapter Event

The PMIWDC Monthly Chapter event takes place every month at the DoubleTree in McLean. Members and Non-Members are welcome to join us for the best speakers and networking the Washington DC area has to offer.

The presentations are educational and informative to those professionals operating in the field of project management and functioning in leadership roles in industry and government. It is also of great value to those looking to step into the field of Project Management and begin their certification process. Each event will present specific learning points focusing on building a talent triangle of technical, leadership, and strategic and business management skills, unique to the presenter's area of expertise and the subject matter discussed while directly relating to improving the practice of managing projects and leading others. At each Monthly Chapter Event certified PMPs can earn 1 Professional Development Unit (PDU).
