PMIWDC

Message from the Chapter Chair - November eNewsletter

Thank you one and all for making us the largest chapter in the world – more than 10,000 members and growing!

In August PMIWDC reached a significant milestone in chapter history when total membership crossed the 10,000 mark. At the October dinner meeting we celebrated this milestone with a champagne toast and special guests – six Past Presidents! The Past Presidents in attendance were: Rushton Williamson, Billy Stone, Bruce Shaw, Chris Fristad, Andrew Anderson, Ron Taylor, and Rich Marinucci.

Chartered in 1978, PMIWDC became the 8th chapter of PMI serving the greater Washington, DC metro area. From 1978 to 1999, the chapter grew to 1000 members. Membership has seen a tenfold increase since 1999, growing from 1,000 to over 10,000 during that time. Chapter events have paralleled this growth. The chapter provides opportunities for professional development activities such as seminars, PMP prep classes, luncheon and dinner meetings, and other PDU-generating activities. Second, the chapter provides professional networking opportunities such as career day, networking social events, and luncheon and dinner meetings.

In addition the chapter is reaching out to promote the profession. This encompasses several initiatives, including high school and college outreach to expose students to project management as a potential career choice, corporate and government outreach to raise the profile and endorsement of project management among our clients and employers.

The chapter offers numerous social and networking opportunities. The annual golf tournament and PM After Hours events let project managers relax and network in a social setting. Look for us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

As the profession of project management becomes increasingly more important to government and businesses, who recognize its strategic competitive advantage, the chapter will be there to support you with opportunities for certification, education, professional development and networking.

Thank you again for your membership in our strong and vibrant Chapter! We invite you to engage with us to help steer the chapter’s course to even greater achievements ahead. Thank you for your continued membership and support during this exciting time.

Regards,
David Offenkrantz
