Call For International Travelers

PMIWDC is now accepting applications to travel to international destinations as part of our Chapter-To-Chapter program.  Great opportunities are available for PMIWDC members interested in helping to expand the scope of project management knowledge not only for themselves but for our chapter as well.  Trips are planned for Brazil, Uruguay, Russia, India, Australia, Greece, and Singapore.  All trips will occur in the Fall 2008 and Winter of 2009 timeframe on dates yet to be determined.  Travel expenses will be paid or defrayed by PMIWDC.  Please refer to the Call for Travelers link appearing under the Outreach link in the PMIWDC chapter website.

Each of the individual evaluation categories below will be scored on a scale from 0 to 100.  Each of the categories have a relative weight, with all six summing to 100.  Applicants should indicate which country they are interested in, or indicate “any.”  The application should consist of three parts: 1) a written proposal of between 500 and 1,000 words setting forth why the applicant is the best candidate for representing the PMIWDC chapter at one of our partner chapters, and addressing each of the first five evaluation categories provided below; 2) an outline/summary of the intended presentation, and any associated written material; and 3) a resume.

a)      Length of experience as a Project/Program Manager
b)      Knowledge of PMIWDC
c)       Topic Meaningful to Project Management and engaging to the intended audience
d)      Sponsorship/matching funds
e)      Language/culture background – able to connect
f)       Miscellaneous

The call for applications closes on October 24, 2008.

Qualified applicants who can offer financial sponsorship to offset the travel expenses will be given preference.  Information about the Chapter-To-Chapter program may be found on the PMIWDC website under the “Chapter Community” tab on the home page.  This program is open to members of PMIWDC only.

Applications should be submitted to Chris Karanski at chris.karanski@pmiwdc.org.

PMO Accord Available through PMO SIG

PMI's Program Management Office (PMO) Specific Interest Group (SIG) recently published the first edition of a PMO Accord, accessible via the Resources tab of the PMOSIG's website at www.pmosig.org (you must be a member of the SIG to access it).

The PMOSIG Board chartered the project in December of 2007 with the goal of authoring "an Accord of proven practices for building and operating a Program Management Office (PMO)."  Over 140 PMOSIG members volunteered and contributed a collection of articles based on their experiences.  The Accord is a sharing of ideas and experiences from those who have been there.  Some of the ideas are complimentary, some are contradictory.  The team acknowledges that there is not a single solution for every situation; this is not an attempt to create a standard.  These are simply "proven" practices; ones that have worked for the contributors and may work for others.

The Accord will be an ongoing project within the PMOSIG...if you would like to view the Accord and/or participate in the next edition, you can join the PMOSIG via www.pmi.org and check it out at www.pmosig.org.
