Emotional Intelligence Research Survey

At a February meeting of the PMI Silver Spring chapter, one of the chapter members, Dereje Tessema, Senior Project Manager at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, spoke briefly about doctoral research he is conducting on the "Relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Transformational Leadership for Project Managers.
Dereje is looking for your help!
A key component of his research is a survey he has created, which you can fill out online at www.emotionsandleadership.com.
This is an anonymous survey, where you as a PM need only provide your experience and answer questions about leadership and emotional intelligence.
Dereje's doctoral research was motivated by the fact that no study has yet been carried out, to his knowledge, which covers the intersection of these two components in the field of project management. Much, however, has been written separately about each of the two, and for those of you interested in the theoretical framework for emotional intelligence and transformational leadership, as well as the practical role emotion plays in our day-to-day activities as we work with various stakeholders from different backgrounds, Dereje recommends the following books:
-
"Emotional Intelligence for Project Managers: The People Skills You Need to Achieve Outstanding Results," by Anthony C. Mersino. Dereje describes this as a valuable book for project managers who wish to learn more about the role of emotion in their workplace.
-
"The Emotionally Intelligent Manager: How to Develop and Use the Four Key Emotional Skills of Leadership," by David R. Caruso and Peter Salovey, who developed one of the few emotional intelligence tests.
-
"Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ," a ground-breaking book by Daniel Goleman, a Harvard psychologist and Newsweek Science reporter who laid the foundation for current studies in emotional intelligence.
-
"Transformational Leadership," by Bernard M. Bass and Ronald E. Riggio, pioneers in the field of Leadership Theory.
