I began serving as President the PMI
Washington DC Chapter two years ago, and as my term expires this month,
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the Board members and
other volunteers who have given so freely of their time and talent to
make this an exceptional Chapter.
We are about to conclude an
extraordinary two years of accomplishments. While continuing to offer
all of the services we provided in 2006, we have introduced nearly 120
new initiatives. Our membership has grown from 6,900 in 2006 to over
8,500, our volunteer program has more than doubled from 100 volunteers
to 244, and we were selected to participate in or deliver a record six
presentations at PMI’s 2007 and 2008 Leadership Institute Meetings,
providing more volunteers with the opportunity to share information
about the great work they have been doing.
PMI recognized us with eight awards
during the past two years, far more than any other Chapter. The awards
included the 2007 Component of the Year and 2008 Component of the Year
Recognition of Excellence Awards.
We also received PMI’s 2008 awards for
Collaboration, Volunteer of the Year (Shirley Buchanan), Volunteer of
the Year Recognition of Excellence (Aaron Hall), Component Leader of
the Year (me), and our volunteer program won the Recognition of
Excellence awards in both 2007 and 2008.
In addition, we have
- Celebrated our 30th anniversary,
- Developed alliances with a wide
variety of organizations,
- Provided seminars by three
outstanding experts in project management, Lee Lambert, Neal Whitten
and Dave Gerber,
- Launched a series of Career Days,
- Greatly expanded our sponsorship
program,
- Increased the number of breakfast
and luncheon meetings,
- Hosted a volunteer appreciation
dinner, and
- Established an endowed scholarship
exclusively for Chapter members.
We have also completed the groundwork
to create a new Board structure. Beginning next year, we will have a
Governance Board, which will focus on strategic matters, and an
Operational Board, which will focus on implementation. Linda Cantey,
our incoming President, will lead the Governance Board and Rich
Marinucci, our incoming President-Elect, will lead the Operational
Board.
As always, we appreciate and value
your support, and we look forward to continuing to serve you for many
years to come.
Sincerely,
Ron
Taylor
