Another Outstanding Year for PMIWDC
2009 was another landmark year for the largest local project management association in the world. The PMIWDC board and volunteers expanded all areas of the chapter's operations, increasing the number of programs and creating new services for the chapter's growing international membership.
Rich Marinucci, the COO for 2009 and the incoming 2010 President, pointed out that "Despite a downturn in the economy, the PMIWDC Chapter in 2009 continued to make significant gains in membership benefits by providing our members high value networking events and numerous educational seminars, thereby providing our folks with many opportunities for improving their skill sets and allowing them to reach others within the project management industry throughout the Washington DC and Northern Virginia areas."
New programs include:
-
The 3rd annual Career Day sold out in record time, despite the challenging job market
-
The new Member Orientation session launched in the summer got rave reviews
-
The new social networking programs in Tyson's Corner, and the new PM After Hours happy hour in Arlington gave local PMs new opportunities to connect in a more casual context
-
The new Crystal City dinner meetings attracted hundreds of local project managers who normally could not attend the ongoing Tysons Corner dinners
-
Two additional local community groups (US Marshalls and Alexandria) created free lunchtime educational opportunities for members working in those areas
-
The new Global Speakers Exchange webinars attracted hundreds of project managers from around the world every month, and prompted new partnerships between PMIWDC and nearly a dozen other chapters
Behind the scenes, there was even more activity as the volunteers made great strides in improving ongoing programs and in implementing a new governance structure for the chapter. Linda Cantey (President, 2009) thanked each of the board members for their accomplishments in her final address to the board, saying "2009 was a key transition year for PMIWDC – we established a new board structure and provided new roles for more involvement at the board level. As a result, we have an evolving board that looks very different that it did in the past – the wisdom of our veteran board members and energy and enthusiasm of the new board members will continue to propel the chapter forward"
