About the High School Outreach Program
High School Outreach Committee
The High School Outreach Committee was formed to develop and manage an outreach program to inform students in local high schools about project management as an interesting and rewarding career. This is accomplished through formal and/or information presentations to students at the school facility and providing PMI approved literature to guidance counselors, faculty and the student body about the project management profession. PMI Washington DC Chapter volunteers provide facts on how to prepare for a PM career, promote PMI and PMIWDC as a resource. The strategy is to provide PMI project management literature to chapter members and allow volunteers to contact the school of their choice and arrange an orientation presentation with school officials and students.
In 2008 the High School Outreach Committee participated in the Northern Virginia Educating Youth Through Employer Program. The Northern Virginia E.Y.E. program is an employer-driven summer initiative that recruits students ages 16-21 and matches these youths with job opportunities in the private sector and other area businesses. In addition E.Y.E trains students through intensive workshops before and during their work experiences and supports both the students and employers. The High School Outreach Committee provided financial support to the E.Y.E program as well as provided workshops to the students on project management.
