About the Program

Project Reviews - Lessons Learned

The goal of Earned Value Management System surveillance is to demonstrate compliance with industry standards as well as provide insightful and enlightening information to key decision makers and stakeholders.  Critical decisions may be based on evaluation of the performance of the Earned Value Management baseline, and validity in the reporting is essential to the control of both cost and schedule. This discussion will address the responsibilities of Earned Value analysts in providing and conducting the appropriate surveillance and reviews to maintain the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB). Integrated Baseline Reviews, Joint Surveillance Reviews and Project Management Reviews all have different objectives and goals. Each review has a distinct application and implementation that will be discussed. Based on PMI® Standards, this insightful examination of these reviews provides a real world application of Earned Value Management that leads to coveted success in reporting and sustainment of the Performance Management Baseline.

This focused discussion will cover the benefits of accurate application of the different project reviews as well as the drawbacks to the incorrect implementation of reviews; which review best serves the projects success and which can lead to a drain of limited project resources. Lessons learned, drawn from experience in the field and research, provide understanding and application to provide practical solutions.
