About the Program:
Building and Managing Effective and Cohesive Teams
The purpose of this talk is to discuss how to create effective and cohesive analytical teams and management teams. It will address the generic analyst and manager archtypes, how they interact and how they communicate. It will then discuss some specific strategies on how to manage the different archtypes with regard to guidance, retention and rewards. It will also address some common mistakes of new managers. Lastly, it will discuss some insights on how to recruit, reward, retain and terminate subordinates.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Eric P. Michael
Dr. Eric P. Michael, PMP
Dr. Eric P. Michael is a strategic communication specialist with over 20 years of experience. He currently serves as an SAIC Assistant Vice President and Business Development Manager. Previously, from 2003 through 2008 he was a Senior Program Manager overseeing SAIC’s Center for International Issues Research. This organization provided support in Strategic Communications to the Department of Defense including Defense Support to Public Diplomacy, Psychological Operations and Foreign Media Analysis. Some significant products included a daily Arabic Media Report that was distributed through the J-2 globally and regional initiative reports called Global Issues Reports that were viewed by senior USG leadership. He has been with SAIC over 8 years.
Prior to his employment with SAIC, Dr. Michael was active as a chief development officer for a variety of not-for-profit educational organizations. He has interned with the German Government, in German corporations, American Trade Associations and other organizations. He was a White House Advance Office Intern. His experience includes service in the reserve components for over 16 years including a deployment in Operation Noble Eagle where he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal. He is a graduate of George Washington University, the College of William and Mary and Shenandoah University with formal education in transformational leadership, change management and modern diplomatic history.
Dr. Michael is married to the former Gale S. Beran and they have three daughters and a son. They reside in Springfield, Virginia.
