Most projects fail from three causes:

• Too many missing requirements
• Lack of attention to efficiency and speed
• Lack of accountability for failure

Unfortunately the project managers usually react to yesterday’s new instead of proactively managing the risks.  Missing requirements result from insufficient understanding of the nature of requirements. Proactively tools for assuring the comprehensiveness of requirements will help in addition to performing negative requirements analysis. Lack o f speed and efficiency is usually a result work done without passion or done without due diligence or the tolerance for substandard work knowing it is substandard. Project managers must use creativity and innovation techniques in coming out ahead of schedule at lower costs than budgeted. In addition, there has to be a clear accountability for the failure of the project and for every member of the team.  A successful project is the one where the team comes out ahead of schedule at lower cost and one that delights the customer!

About the Speaker

Dev  Raheja, MS,CSP

Dev  Raheja, MS,CSP, Risk Manager at Strategic Technology Institute (STi),  is an experienced professional international consultant with expertise in new product project management with a  specialized focus on upfront ultrahigh quality and system integration solutions to  the aviation, medical and healthcare industries.

He is a trainer, author, and shows clients how to earn high return on investment in all the projects through creativity and innovation. He guided the development of the C-BRAT (Cost benefit and Risk Analysis Tool) at STi for managing high risk projects. Being a true international consultant, he has conducted training in several countries including Sweden, Australia, Japan, Germany, UK, Singapore, Taiwan, South Africa, and Brazil. He has done consulting and training work with the Army, Navy, Johnson & Johnson, Siemens Medical Systems, General Electric, St. Francis Hospital, NASA, Apple computer, Intel, Warner-Lambert, Johns Hopkins Hospital, GM, Boeing, Nissan, IBM, Harley-Davidson, United Technologies, and the U.S. Government.

With superior communication skills (e.g., written, verbal, audience presentation), with special attention to detail he has proven ability to organize, and prioritize workflow, create concept development and coordinate the interactions on projects. Prior to becoming a consultant he worked at GE healthcare as Supervisor of Quality Assurance and Manager of Manufacturing, and at Booz-Allen & Hamilton as Risk Management consultant.

He has served as Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland for five years, has authored two books Assurance Technologies Principles and Practices and Zen and the Art of Breakthrough Quality Management, and has authored several articles on engineering management and healthcare quality. He has received several industry awards and is a former national Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award, examiner and frequently lectures at the Johns Hopkins Hospital on innovative techniques.

In his spare time he does Tae Kwon Do. He is a black belt.
