About the Program
Bringing
Project Management, Quality Management, and Domain Knowledge: A Crowning Achievement in a Dental Office
When a dentist designs and creates a crown for a patient’s tooth, is it a project with a unique outcome? Or is it a repeated process that can be monitored by quality tools? The presenters will show how a small custom manufacturing job – creating a crown – falls at the intersection of project management, quality management, and domain knowledge. Even though project management is oriented toward a unique outcome, and quality management is oriented toward continuous processes, the similarities between the approaches will be highlighted. This presentation will illustrate how basic project management principles can be applied to small projects.
About the Speaker
Dr. James Stephen Eaves, DDS, FAGD
Mrs. Kathleen Eaves, PMP, CMQ/OE, CQA
Dr. James Stephen Eaves, DDS, FAGD, is a general practice dentist with an office in Woodbridge, Virginia. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in biological anthropology from Texas A&M University, and his DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Dental School. Steve has been recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, an honor requiring more than 600 hours of continuing education and a comprehensive examination similar to the National Dental Boards. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry and a member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Eaves served multiple years as a delegate from Northern Virginia to the Virginia Dental Association, and serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of General Dentistry.
Mrs. Kathleen Eaves, PMP, CMQ/OE, CQA, is a manager with Noblis, Inc. Kathy earned her B.A. in chemistry and M.A. in biological anthropology from Texas A&M University. Besides being a PMP, she is a senior member of the American Society for Quality, with certifications as a Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence and as a Quality Auditor. She consulted with Steve’s office in his application of quality and project management principles. She would like to warn attendees that, as can been seen by the presentation title, Dr. Eaves enjoys puns.
