About the Program:

The Role of Project Management in Business Development

The purpose of this talk will be to discuss how the PMI PMBOK processes can be used to improve both the efficiency of business development captures and the success rate of bidding on United States Government Department of Defense solicitations.  Specifically to discuss how PMI Initiating and Planning Process Groups are essentially the business development processes for most DoD contractors. This talk will also provide some thoughts on the role of the project / program manager in the business development cycle and how the Executing and Monitoring and Controlling Process Groups relate to the Initiating and Planning Process Groups. The talk will attempt to examine the relationship between bid risk and performance risk, the peculiarities of how each capture is simultaneously both a stand alone project and the planning process for another project, the key role of stakeholder management and communications within each capture and the essential role of metrics.
