About the Program

Modern Thoughts on WBS

Work Breakdown Structures serve as the foundation for effective project planning and project management. Traditionally, WBS decomposition has been done within this program and project context. Doug Clark will discuss new thoughts and methods for using the work being conducted across an organization to create a standard catalog of work objects that can be leveraged to create a WBS. Topics will include the use of natural language processing, implementing a ‘noun-and-verb’ based approach to WBS and schedule development, and creating organizational catalogs of WBS elements.

About the Speaker

Amy Vaccari
Vice President of Operations, Métier

As Métier's Vice President of Operations, Amy Vaccari leads operations-focused initiatives that drive Métier's strategic direction. In this role, Vaccari's key initiatives include enterprise-wide process standardization and enhanced service delivery to Métier’s clients. Vaccari is also currently serving as the Project Management Institute (PMI) representative in developing the ISO Standard for Project Management as part of the United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG).

Prior to becoming Métier's Vice President of Operations, Vaccari led several Portfolio Management Office (PMO) engagements for the company's high profile clients. Each PMO team delivers services specific to each client and provides actionable, objective improvement strategies as an outsourced entity of the enterprise. Vaccari was responsible for helping Métier clients define process, and implement and standardize management strategies across their organizations.

Vaccari earned her Masters of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, where she graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business with a concentration in Operations Management.
