Building on the overwhelming success of the inaugural sessions over the past year, the P.M. in the A.M. series will continue to feature cutting-edge speakers, good food and great opportunities for connecting with other PMs, all in a no-nonsense format designed especially for a busy PM's midweek schedule.

In early 2003, PMI began exploration for developing the first practice standard for project scheduling. Focus would be placed on single project scheduling, with close coupling to the time management section of the PMBOK® Guide. In the summer of 2003, the project team was formed under the leadership of Douglas Clark, Project Manager, and Harold ‘‘Mike’’ Mosley, Jr. PMP, Deputy Project Manager. The project team would grow to include 179 members representing 20 countries.   This presentation summarizes how the Practice Standard for Scheduling was developed, and also outlines its significant contributions to the project management profession.

Douglas Clark is Chief Executive Officer of Métier. He is the inventor of the patented concepts in WorkLenz. Responsible for Métier’s corporate vision and strategic plan, Clark brings over 25 years of technology expertise and management experience to his role as the leader of the Métier management team.

Widely recognized as an industry expert in project management, Clark is a founding board member for the Project Management Institute's (PMI) College of Scheduling. He recently volunteered his experience and insight to the organization as the project manager for PMI's Practice Standard for Scheduling, which was completed in 2007. Clark is also a member of the Standards Consensus Body for PMI. He often shares his expertise, speaking at industry events and contributing to technology and business articles.

Prior to founding Métier, Clark was executive vice president of international systems integrator, LANSystems. While at LANSystems he led the rapid growth of the company’s Washington, D.C. branch, tripling revenue in his first year. While at IBM, he developed information technology solutions for complex satellite command and control ground systems for the U.S. military and commercial clients. Prior to IBM, Clark spent ten years as an analyst at the National Security Agency (NSA). Clark was part of the first set of NSA teams to rapidly deploy to combat zones to provide national intelligence to field commanders. Clark was also selected to participate in an intense cryptologic skills course, where he graduated at the head of his class.

As member of the Multinational Peacekeeping Force for Beirut, Lebanon in 1982, Clark is active in the Beirut Veterans of America Association. An instrument rated private pilot, he is also founder and president of the Diamond Aviators Association. Clark received a Bachelors of Science degree in Information Systems from The University of San Francisco.
